Chennai: Father and son die from toxic gas in well cleaning accident
A father and son died after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a 45-foot-deep well at a residential property in the Sowcarpet area of Chennai. The victims, identified as Ravi and his son, were plumbers hired to desilt the well.
According to police reports, the father entered the well using a rope and collapsed after inhaling accumulated fumes. When his son attempted to descend the well to rescue him, he also succumbed to the toxic gas and lost consciousness.
Emergency responders from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department conducted a rescue operation lasting over 30 minutes. Both men were transported to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where they were declared dead. The Elephant Gate police have registered a case regarding death due to negligence and have launched an investigation.
