Chennai flood prevention works must be completed urgently, says Anbumani

Anbumani has called for the urgent completion of flood prevention works in Chennai to avoid potential disasters. He noted that despite lessons learned from previous floods, the government and Chennai Corporation have yet to finalize critical infrastructure projects.

With the northeast monsoon approaching in less than a month, concerns have been raised regarding unfinished drainage construction and desilting efforts. While 1,045 km of a planned 1,093 km drainage network has been completed since 2022, the remaining 5% of work is considered vital to preventing urban flooding.

Specific areas identified with incomplete or hazardous drainage works include parts of Anna Nagar, Arcot Road, Ashok Nagar, and K.K. Nagar. Other locations such as Alandur, Perungudi, Sholinganallur, and Manali also have ongoing or stalled drainage projects that pose risks to residents.
