Narendra Modi to launch ₹13,000 crore in projects during Chennai visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Chennai to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects valued at over ₹13,000 crore. Key infrastructure highlights include the ₹4,900-crore Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch of Chennai Metro Phase II, which features a 3.7-km double-decker structure and driverless signaling technology. The Prime Minister will also oversee highway projects worth approximately ₹3,700 crore, including sections of NH-744 and the Madurai Ring Road, and railway infrastructure projects exceeding ₹750 crore.

The visit includes engagements at the IIT Madras campus, specifically the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre, and a visit to the Jalakandeswarar Temple. Additionally, the Prime Minister will participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya.

Security for the visit is extensive, with approximately 15,000 to 22,000 police personnel deployed in a five-tier arrangement across the city. A Special Protection Group (SPG) team from Delhi is overseeing the arrangements. Due to security protocols, the Prime Minister's movements within the city will be conducted by road rather than by helicopter.
