NDLEA Seizes $10 bn of Drugs, Arrests Kingpin Onuigbo Chinedu in Nationwide Crackdown
Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced a series of intelligence‑led operations that seized illicit drugs and ammunition with a total street value exceeding ₦10 billion. The agency intercepted 3.30 kg of cocaine concealed in food‑packing cartons bound for the United Kingdom at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, leading to the arrest of 55‑year‑old clothing trader Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu, identified as the alleged kingpin of the syndicate. Additional arrests included cargo agents Nkwor Onyekachukwu Justina, Adeleke Abiola Taoheed, Ukanwa Grace Pilgrim and driver Kenneth Okakpu, who handled the shipment.
Separate raids uncovered 2.80 kg of synthetic cannabis “Canadian Loud” imported from the United States and seized from entrepreneur Emmanuella Chukwu‑Edo, as well as 2.24 million Tapentadol 250 mg pills from India valued at over ₦2.2 billion. Officers also recovered 401 rounds of military‑grade ammunition concealed in palm‑oil kegs in Kaduna and Katsina states and seized 4,777 sachets of Canadian Loud (2.388 kg) hidden inside three vehicles at the Apapa seaport, worth more than ₦7.1 billion.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa toured Lekki Port to deepen inter‑agency cooperation and later urged traditional rulers, parents and community leaders to screen farmland buyers and monitor forest areas in Ogun and Oyo states after the discovery of industrial‑scale methamphetamine labs allegedly run by a Nigerian‑Mexican cartel.
