Cheonan Police investigate murder of Japanese woman

Police in Cheonan, South Korea, are investigating the murder of a Japanese woman in her 20s. A man in his 30s, identified as A, was arrested for the killing, which occurred on October 28 at an officetel in the Dujeong-dong area.

A has claimed to investigators that he intended to take his own life due to a 5 million won loss in stock investments and sought to die with the victim. However, authorities have raised several questions regarding this motive. The two individuals had only met three times, were not in a romantic relationship, and there were no prior reports of stalking.

Following the incident, the suspect fled to Jeonju, over 100 kilometers away, before being apprehended the next morning. Police are currently conducting digital forensics on the victim's locked mobile phone to determine how the two met and to verify the suspect's claims. While social media speculation suggests they may have met through a language exchange app, this remains unconfirmed. No evidence of sexual assault has been found thus far.
