Chevrolet Corvette expands electrified lineup with ZR1X and future EV plans
General Motors is developing an all-electric Chevrolet Corvette, though no specific timeline for its release has been established. While Executive Chief Engineer Tony Roma noted that a zero-tailpipe-emission model is inevitable as an “end game,” he emphasized that such a release is not imminent.
In the interim, Chevrolet is expanding its electrified performance lineup. The 2026 Corvette ZR1X Stars & Steel Edition is a limited-run model featuring a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 paired with a front-mounted electric motor, producing a combined 1,250 horsepower and all-wheel drive. This special edition commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States with patriotic styling.
Additionally, the Grand Sport X provides another electrified option, utilizing a 6.7-liter engine and an electric motor to produce 721 horsepower. GM President Mark Reuss has confirmed that further electrified variants will arrive in the coming years, though the company intends to maintain its internal combustion engine offerings alongside new technologies.
