Chevrolet Corvette sees record auction price, Pikes Peak speed record, high-end pricing and performance test

A 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport chassis #003, one of only five ever built, is slated for auction by RM Sotheby’s and is expected to fetch up to $13 million, reflecting its rarity and historic racing pedigree.

The hybrid‑powered Corvette ZR1X set a new Pikes Peak record, completing the climb in 9:30.104 – more than 23 seconds faster than the previous series‑car benchmark – thanks to a twin‑turbo V8, a front electric motor and a combined output of 1,250 hp.

For the 2027 model year, the most expensive Grand Sport built for the U.S. market is an Arctic White convertible priced at $155,009, loaded with carbon‑fiber wheels, carbon‑ceramic brakes and a suite of premium options that add over $50,000 to the base price.

In a real‑world performance comparison, the C8 Grand Sport demonstrated stronger low‑end torque and more relaxed street drivability, while the C8 Z06 remained the quicker car on the track, delivering higher horsepower and sharper throttle response at high engine speeds.
