Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X achieves record quarter-mile time before crash

A modified Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X from Hutter Performance Center set a new quarter-mile record, running 8.580 seconds at 160.93 mph at Kuhnle Motorsports Park in Thompson, Ohio. This time is 0.095 seconds faster than Chevrolet’s own factory test run of 8.675 seconds at 159.57 mph.

Immediately following the record-setting run, the silver vehicle snapped sideways and struck a retaining wall nose-first. Hutter Performance reported that a tire malfunction caused the spin. While the car sustained significant damage, including a torn front fascia and a missing rear tire, the driver was reported to be okay, sustaining only bruises.
