Chhattisgarh adds 250 MBBS seats with five new government medical colleges

The National Medical Commission gave approval for five new government medical colleges in the districts of Giddim (Dantewada), Kunki (Jashpur), Manendragarh, Janjgir‑Champa and Kabirdham. Each college will offer 100 MBBS seats, split equally between state and central quotas, expanding the state's capacity by 250 seats for the 2026‑27 academic session.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai called the expansion a historic milestone for medical education and health infrastructure in Chhattisgarh, noting that the colleges will serve remote tribal areas and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Health Minister J.P. Nadda for their support.
