Chiapas authorities seize 1,800 sea turtle eggs

An individual was detained in Arriaga, Chiapas, for attempting to transport 1,800 sea turtle eggs without authorization from the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).

Following an anonymous tip, federal agents inspected a passenger bus traveling from Juchitán, Oaxaca, to Chiapas. Authorities discovered three cardboard boxes containing the eggs. The suspect was taken into custody by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) to face investigations regarding the illegal transport of aquatic fauna categorized as being at risk. The eggs were transferred to the ‘Tortuga Marina’ camp in Puerto Arista for protection.
