Chiayi City receives awards for transport projects amid calls for HSR rail links

Chiayi City has received recognition for its human-centric transportation policies. The city's Public Works Department won three awards in the "2026 Good Road" evaluation, including an Excellence Award for the Beiyuan Elementary and Middle School school zone walking path project, and two Honorable Mentions for the Beigang Road pole undergrounding project and the Xingye East Road improvement project.

Separately, political figure Chang Chi-kai has called on President Lai Ching-te and the central government to expedite the approval of the rail link connecting the Chiayi High Speed Rail station to the city center. Chang argued that such infrastructure is essential to address the regional imbalance in industrial and talent distribution and to ensure Chiayi is effectively integrated into the "Greater Southern Silicon Valley" development plan. He emphasized that completing transport networks is a prerequisite for attracting industries and residents to the region.
