Chiba region faces flooding and road closures due to Typhoon 25

Typhoon 25 has brought heavy rain and high waves to the Chiba and Kanto regions of Japan, leading to widespread flooding, road closures, and emergency measures.

In Ichikawa City, authorities announced the opening of the Gyotoku Movable Weir on September 21 to divert rising Edogawa River waters into the Edogawa Floodway. This action has caused water levels to rise significantly in surrounding riverbeds, prompting warnings for residents to stay away from the water. Multiple areas in Ichikawa, including Onitaka and Haragi, have reported road flooding, and level 3 evacuation advisories for the elderly have been issued in certain districts.

In Funabashi City, officials have urged residents to monitor water levels in the Eborigawa river system and consult hazard maps due to the risk of inundation.

Transportation has been heavily impacted. Several expressways, including sections of the Tateyama Expressway and the Tomei Expressway (between Fuji IC and Shimizu JCT due to high waves), have faced closures. In Chiba, reports indicate vehicle submergence and flooding of local businesses, including convenience stores and restaurants. Heavy rain warnings (Level 3) were issued for several municipalities, including Chiba, Matsudo, and Kamagaya.
