Chicago Bears RB Kyle Monangai doubtful for Week 1 after knee injury
Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai is considered week-to-week after suffering a hyperextended right knee during training camp. The injury occurred during the team's 14th practice when Monangai was tackled by defensive lineman Grady Jarrett.
Head coach Ben Johnson indicated that Monangai's availability for the Week 1 season opener is in jeopardy. While an MRI provided a positive outlook, the injury may cause him to miss multiple weeks of action. If Monangai is unable to play at the start of the season, the Bears may rely more heavily on D'Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, Britain Brown, and Salvon Ahmed.
Monangai, a former seventh-round pick, recorded 783 rushing yards and five touchdowns during his rookie campaign last season. The team will monitor his progress as they prepare for their upcoming preseason matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
