Chicago Cubs bolster pitching staff through trades and rehab assignments

The organization acquired veteran starters Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes, along with reliever Ryan Zeferjahn and left-hander Braxton Garrett. While these acquisitions aim to support a potential playoff run, the team continues to face challenges regarding long-term controllable starting pitching.

In addition to the new acquisitions, pitcher Shelby Miller has begun a rehab assignment with the Iowa Cubs following right elbow surgery. Manager Craig Counsell noted that Miller’s recovery has progressed faster than anticipated, though he cautioned that the player still has several steps to complete before returning to the major league roster.
