Chicago Cubs call up prospect B. J. Murray
The Chicago Cubs are selecting the contract of 26-year-old infield prospect B. J. Murray as rosters expand. Murray, a switch-hitter and the team’s No. 19 prospect, has demonstrated significant productivity in Triple-A this season, posting a .294 batting average with 16 home runs and an .895 OPS.
Murray offers defensive versatility, having played first base, third base, and second base, with limited experience in left field. His addition provides depth to the Cubs' infield, particularly as star shortstop Dansby Swanson is sidelined with an oblique injury. His ability to hit from both sides of the plate is expected to provide manager Craig Counsell with tactical options for the bench during the postseason push.
