Chicago Cubs defense recognized with 2026 Fielding Bible Awards

The Chicago Cubs' defensive performance during the 2026 MLB season has been recognized by Sports Info Solutions, which announced its annual Fielding Bible Awards. The Cubs received the Team of the Year award, finishing with 115 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS), a significant margin over the second-place Tampa Bay Rays, who recorded 87.

Pete Crow-Armstrong was named the Player of the Year on defense. Despite finishing second to Ceddanne Rafaela in DRS, Crow-Armstrong led in other defensive metrics. The Cubs' defensive success was further highlighted by five players being named Golden Glove finalists, including long-term core members like Nico Hoerner.

While the 2026 season ended without postseason success due to pitching instability and inconsistent hitting, the team led the league in runs scored. The organization is expected to focus on roster reconstruction for the 2027 season, utilizing its elite defensive foundation as a primary building block.
