Chicago Cubs remove Jameson Taillon from roster

The Chicago Cubs designated right‑hander Jameson Taillon for assignment, ending his four‑year, $68 million contract during its final season. Taillon, 34, posted a 2‑6 record with a 5.92 ERA in 15 starts this year. At the same time, the club selected right‑hander Andrew Wantz from Triple‑A Iowa to join the major‑league staff. Manager Craig Counsell also announced that Javier Assad, who has posted a 3.86 ERA in 65.1 innings this season, will take Taillon’s place in the starting rotation.
