Chicago Cubs to retain pitching coaches Hottovy and Jacobson

The Chicago Cubs intend to retain pitching coach Tommy Hottovy and assistant pitching coach Casey Jacobson for the 2027 season, despite a difficult 2026 campaign marked by significant pitching struggles.

During the 2026 season, the Cubs' pitching staff posted a 4.12 ERA, ranking 14th in MLB, but the team finished 27th in total pitching (6.0 fWAR). The staff faced extensive injury issues, including setbacks for players such as Justin Steele, Cade Horton, Matthew Boyd, and Edward Cabrera. Additionally, the pitching staff allowed 231 home runs throughout the season.

Hottovy has been with the Cubs organization since 2014 and has served as pitching coach since 2019, working under managers Joe Maddon, David Ross, and Craig Counsell. Jacobson has served as assistant pitching coach for the past two seasons.
