University of Chicago fraternity sexual assault investigation
Chicago police are investigating a reported sexual assault that occurred early Sunday morning at an Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) fraternity house in the Hyde Park neighborhood near the University of Chicago. The victim, a 21-year-old woman who is not a student at the university, reported the incident took place around 1:50 a.m. during a party. She was able to seek medical treatment at the University of Chicago Medical Center after an unidentified individual intervened, allowing the suspect to flee.
The University of Chicago has identified a “person of interest” in connection with the assault and has banned them from campus. While officials declined to name the individual due to the ongoing investigation, they confirmed the person is not affiliated with the university. The identification was reportedly corroborated by witness statements and video evidence from university cameras and license plate readers.
AEPi Headquarters stated that the chapter is cooperating with law enforcement and university administration. The fraternity has been instructed to suspend all events and programs pending the results of the investigation. The Chicago Police Department is leading the criminal investigation with support from the University of Chicago Police Department.
