Chico Buarque death threat under police investigation

The Civil Police are investigating a death threat directed at 82-year-old singer and composer Chico Buarque. The threat was posted in the comments section of a major São Paulo newspaper following an article regarding the musician's political endorsements.

According to Buarque's legal team, the comment stated, “I would love to shorten the life of this scoundrel.” The defense has identified the author as a physician registered with the Regional Medical Council of Minas Gerais, though his name has not been released.

The Cybercrime Repression Police Station (DRCI) has initiated an investigation to identify the individual behind the profile and determine criminal responsibility. Lawyers Maíra Fernandes and João Vicente Tinoco noted that while freedom of expression allows for criticism, the comment crossed the line into a direct threat based on the artist's political positions.
