Chico Buarque's work reimagined in new 'Chico 2.0' project
The musical project ‘Chico 2.0’ has launched, featuring various artists reimagining the works of legendary Brazilian composer Chico Buarque. A collaboration between Favela Records, Tha House, and Universal Music Brasil, the project aims to introduce Buarque’s classic compositions to younger generations by blending them with contemporary genres such as rap, trap, funk, R&B, soul, and new MPB.
The first part of the album, consisting of ten tracks, was released on digital platforms on Friday, August 21. Notable collaborations include Tasha & Tracie performing ‘Deus Lhe Pague’, MC Cabelinho with Xênia França on ‘Cálice’, and TZ da Coronel with Júlia Mestre on ‘João e Maria’. Other participating artists include Dexter, MC Livinho, Budah, Don L, Vandal, Grag Queen, Bela Maria, and Maurício Pazz.
Produced by Alê Siqueira and conceptualized by Felipe Poeta, the project seeks to preserve the essence of the original 1960s and 1970s compositions while applying modern identities and sounds. A second part of the project is scheduled for release in October.
