Chihuahua and Jalisco lead Mexico's technology export growth

Chihuahua and Jalisco dominate Mexico's high-tech export sector, accounting for nearly 80% of the country's exports in computing, communication, and electronic components during the first quarter of 2026. Chihuahua alone contributed 52% of these specific technological exports, while Jalisco represented 27.4%. Major manufacturers such as Foxconn, Jabil, and Flex operate in these regions, supporting international supply chains for artificial intelligence and digital services.

Broadly, five northern states—Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Durango—concentrated 49.8% of Mexico's total national exports during the same period. Chihuahua emerged as the leading state for overall exports, totaling $35.986 billion and representing 24.3% of the national total, marking a 69% growth compared to the previous year. Nuevo León followed with $14.538 billion in exports, driven largely by transport equipment.

Despite the strength in specialized technology and manufacturing, some regions reported economic fluctuations. Chihuahua saw a 1.8% quarterly decline in its state economic activity indicator, and Jalisco experienced a 0.8% quarterly decrease, suggesting that growth in high-tech segments may occur alongside weakness in other manufacturing sectors.
