Chihuahua cattle exports to expand with new border port

Livestock exports from Chihuahua to the United States are expected to increase following the authorized opening of a second border crossing port. Álvaro Bustillos, president of the Unión Ganadera Regional de Chihuahua (UGRCh), stated that the organization is working to gradually expand export capacity.

Currently, approximately 1,000 head of cattle are moved daily. The UGRCh has submitted a request to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to increase this flow to 1,300 animals per day, with a long-term goal of reaching 2,500 head daily.

To facilitate this growth, an ‘mirror operation’ has been implemented to shift capacity from quarantine zones to pre-inspection areas. This strategy aims to enhance inspection capabilities at the San Jerónimo point, potentially allowing for the inspection of up to 2,500 cattle per day and reducing accumulation times during the export process.
