Mexico commemorates 60 years of Plan DN-III-E disaster relief

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led ceremonies to mark the 60th anniversary of Plan DN-III-E, the military strategy used by the Secretariat of National Defense to provide aid during natural and human-made disasters. The event, held at the Santa Lucía Military Air Base, honored the service of the Armed Forces, including the Army, Air Force, and National Guard.

Since its first implementation in October 1966 following Hurricane Inés, the plan has been activated in approximately 87,000 events both within Mexico and internationally. General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, Secretary of National Defense, noted that the plan has provided humanitarian assistance to 30 countries on 99 occasions. The strategy operates through three phases: prevention, relief, and recovery.

Regional authorities, including the Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez, and officials from Chihuahua and Sinaloa, also held commemorative acts. These ceremonies highlighted the plan's role in responding to hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and forest fires, as well as its logistical support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
