Chihuahua distributes economic incentives to indigenous communities

The Secretariat of Indigenous Peoples and Communities (SPyCI) has distributed 57 incentives through the 2026 Economic Development Program for the Indigenous Population. The initiative involves an investment of 1.425 million pesos, with each beneficiary receiving 25,000 pesos to support various trades and businesses.

Supported activities include textile manufacturing, gastronomy, carpentry, handicrafts, commerce, herbalism, and more. The program covers 67 municipalities, with a specific priority placed on the Sierra Tarahumara region. The goal is to foster self-employment and economic independence within these communities.

Enrique Rascón Carrillo, head of the secretariat, stated that the resources are intended to provide opportunities rather than mere handouts, emphasizing that the funds support the existing knowledge and efforts of indigenous people to improve their family and community economies.
