Chihuahua enhances public safety via WhatsApp network and fire services

In Chihuahua, the Municipal Police Department is utilizing the ‘Red Vecinal’ tool, a WhatsApp-based communication system, to enhance public safety. The network currently includes 1,102 active groups and 25,774 users, allowing residents to report emergencies, suspicious activities, or request police presence by sharing real-time locations, photos, and videos.

Additionally, the Chihuahua municipal government has strengthened the Heroic Fire and Rescue Corps. Mayor Marco Antonio Bonilla Mendoza oversaw the delivery of new firefighting units, specialized equipment, and the training of 150 personnel in basic life support. A specialized Rescue Squadron has also been established at Station 7 to handle high-risk scenarios such as water rescues and confined space emergencies.

In other regional news, Mexico City firefighters reported 158 gas leak incidents over a four-day period, following a fatal explosion in the Álvaro Obregón district. Meanwhile, in Tehuacán, emergency services successfully rescued a dog that had been trapped in a well for several days.
