Chihuahua faces significant federal budget cuts in 2027 proposal

Federal Deputy Manque Granados has warned that the 2027 Economic Package proposes significant budget reductions for priority sectors in Chihuahua. Key areas facing cuts include water, agriculture, the environment, culture, and support for women and people with disabilities.

Granados highlighted a nearly 50 percent drop in hydro-agricultural subsidies, which she noted is critical for addressing regional droughts. Additionally, she identified four programs that currently receive funding for Chihuahua but appear to have no allocation in the 2027 proposal: the Program for the Advancement, Well-being, and Equality of Women (PABIM), the Liconsa milk social supply program, the Culture Support Program, and support for public upper secondary education schools for students with disabilities.

Specifically, Granados pointed out that funding for PABIM in Chihuahua is set to drop from over 27 million pesos to zero, potentially eliminating legal, psychological, and social support for victims of violence. The deputy also noted a lack of specific resources for a new IMSS hospital and new federal highways in the state, arguing that federal participation remains stagnant in real terms despite Chihuahua's economic contributions.
