Chihuahua government rules out early election ahead of 2027 race

State Secretary General of Government Santiago de la Peña Grajeda said the legal timetable for the next electoral cycle has not yet begun and that no advance election will be held. He emphasized that political parties must follow their internal candidate‑selection processes and respect the official calendar, which is set to start in October with candidate registration taking place in the early months of 2027.

Regarding mayor of Ciudad Juárez Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, de la Peña called speculation about a possible early licence request premature, noting that any decision rests with the mayor and his party. He stressed that all public officials interested in running must adhere to the established electoral rules and timelines.
