Chihuahua launches FICUU 2026 with Chihuahueño sculpture exhibition

The Chihuahua International City Festival (FICUU 2026) officially begins this Monday with the opening of the “Chihuahua Deja Huella” exhibition at the Plaza de Armas. The showcase features 15 monumental sculptures of the Chihuahueño dog, a symbol of the state, which have been artistically intervened to reflect the identity, history, and culture of Chihuahua.

Out of 92 original proposals submitted by local residents, 15 were selected by a committee of artists and cultural community members. The works incorporate diverse themes such as local architecture, natural wealth, and regional traditions. For example, the piece “Aurora” by the artist Rox draws inspiration from muralism and the figure of Aurora Reyes.

The monumental sculptures will remain on display until October 12, and smaller replicas will be available for viewing at the Sebastian Museum. Each sculpture includes a QR code at its base, allowing visitors to access information about the artist and the concept behind the design. There are plans for the exhibition to become itinerant to reach more people in different spaces.
