Chihuahua mayor pauses candidacy, new electoral board chief appointed, two parties gain local accreditation

Mayor Marco Bonilla of Chihuahua said he will wait for the PAN's internal contest rules before seeking a leave of absence to pursue the state governorship, emphasizing that his priority remains the Fifth Government Report slated for 4 September. The Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) swore in Roxana García Lara as the executive vocal of the 08 District Electoral Board in Chihuahua, noting her long service within the institute and her prior roles in the state of Coahuila.

The State Electoral Institute (IEE) of Chihuahua approved the local accreditation of the newly formed national parties Partido Paz and Somos México, recognizing their national registration and reallocating public funding for the July‑December 2026 period, with each party receiving roughly 2.28 million pesos for the second half of the fiscal year.
