Chihuahua mayor says PAN-Morena race tight as Sonora vows agenda continuity ahead of 2027 elections

Chihuahua mayor Marco Bonilla told El Diario that the contest for the 2027 gubernatorial race in the state has become a close competition between the National Action Party (PAN) and Morena. He noted that surveys show Morena’s lead has narrowed since the 2024 presidential election and credited Governor Maru Campos’s recent controversies for strengthening PAN unity. Bonilla highlighted the need for PAN to renew itself in Ciudad Juárez, expand its presence in neighborhoods and markets, and address local demands such as new schools and orderly urban growth.

In Sonora, Secretary of Government Adolfo Salazar Razo said the political ambitions of officials targeting the 2027 election will not disrupt the state’s public agenda. He emphasized that the administration, headed by Governor Alfonso Durazo, will keep delivering ongoing infrastructure projects and social programs while keeping political campaigning separate from day‑to‑day governance.
