Chihuahua municipality hosts animal‑cruelty prevention forum and arrests man for dog abuse

The municipal Coordination of Environment and Animal Protection in Chihuahua organized a forum titled “Maltrato Animal y Violencias Interconectadas: hacia una política pública de prevención.” Sponsored by Mayor Marco Bonilla, the event drew more than 170 participants from eight municipalities, state and local officials, universities and animal‑rights groups. Experts presented on topics such as animal welfare history, responsible rescue, links between animal cruelty and broader social violence, and forensic veterinary science. Workshops included a children’s session on responsible pet ownership, and working groups discussed proposals for a public policy framework.

Following a citizen report filed through the “Marca el Cambio” app, municipal police detained a man in the Nuevo Chihuahua neighbourhood for alleged abuse of a female dog and her five puppies. The animals were rescued and placed under veterinary observation, with plans for future responsible adoption. The case has been forwarded to the State Attorney General for investigation.
