Chihuahua municipality opens police and firefighter recruitment amid July crime report
The municipal government of Chihuahua announced the final recruitment round for its Police of Proximity and Firefighter academies. Applicants must be Mexican citizens, at least 18 years old, hold a high‑school certificate, have a clean police record for the past three years, possess a driver’s licence and health insurance, and register online at registro.policiachihuahua.gob.mx by 31 October 2026.
In July, the city recorded 30 homicides—five above the target—and an 11 % year‑over‑year decline in total homicides. Most killings were linked to drug‑trade disputes. Vehicle thefts continued to fall, with 19 non‑violent and no violent incidents reported. Residential and commercial robberies also decreased, and more than 300 people were detained for various offenses, primarily narcotics‑related activities.
