Chihuahua police utilize specialized K9 Unit for security

The Municipal Public Security Directorate (DSPM) in Chihuahua is utilizing its specialized K9 Unit to strengthen local security operations. The unit consists of approximately 16 to 18 canine agents of various breeds, including Dutch Shepherds, each selected for specific roles such as drug and weapon detection, search, guarding, and protection.

Officers training these animals undergo continuous specialized instruction to become certified handlers. The canine agents receive daily training using pseudo-aromas to simulate the scent of narcotics or explosives, allowing them to locate and mark targets for human officers. To ensure immediate response during emergencies, handlers maintain a close bond with their canine partners, often providing care and housing for the dogs outside of official working hours.
