Chihuahua reports high child homicide rates amid declining vehicle thefts

Recent data from Chihuahua reveals contrasting trends in crime statistics. According to a report by the Network for the Rights of Children in Mexico (Redim) based on Inegi data, Chihuahua ranks as the sixth most lethal state in Mexico for the homicide of children and adolescents. The state recorded 59 such homicides, with 79.66% of victims being adolescents between 15 and 17 years old. While the total number of child homicides represents 2.8% of the state's total homicides, Chihuahua holds the eighth-highest rate with 5.2 murders per 100,000 minors.

In contrast, official data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) shows a decline in vehicle-related crimes. Through July, Chihuahua reported 1,381 stolen vehicles and motorcycles, marking a 26% reduction compared to the same period in the previous year. Of these, 1,018 were four-wheeled vehicles and 263 were motorcycles. The majority of these thefts, including 953 vehicle thefts and 249 motorcycle thefts, were reported as non-violent.
