Chihuahua reports over 500 mental health crisis interventions

The Municipal Institute for Prevention and Health Care (IMPAS) reported that 525 people in Chihuahua have required psychological containment due to mental health crises that could have resulted in suicide through September of this year.

During the same period, the “Hablar Salva Vidas” (*800) helpline received 4,271 calls, highlighting the scale of the mental health challenges facing the capital's residents. IMPAS Director Luis Antonio Arrieta Trevizo stated that prevention efforts are ongoing, extending beyond the September suicide prevention awareness month.

To expand access, the municipality is developing a new digital mental health platform. This strategy aims to provide 24-hour assistance, including video calls with specialists, to ensure individuals in crisis can receive immediate guidance without waiting for in-person appointments. The institute also maintains psychological prevention programs in schools to address issues affecting children and adolescents.
