Chihuahua sees high foreign investment amid industrial power challenges

Chihuahua has secured more than 200 foreign direct investment projects, strengthening its position in strategic sectors such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical devices, and mining. Ulises Fernández, Secretary of Innovation and Economic Development, noted that the state maintains national leadership in exports due to a diversified industrial base and integration into global supply chains.

However, industrial competitiveness in the region is facing challenges due to electrical service deficiencies and frequent power outages. Sergio Gramer, president of Canacintra, reported that 9 out of 10 companies have been affected by these outages in recent months. Economic losses vary significantly by scale: micro-enterprises face losses between 30,000 and 70,000 pesos per event, while large industries can lose up to one million pesos.

Beyond direct production halts, issues such as voltage fluctuations and micro-cuts cause material waste, equipment damage, and manufacturing reprocessing. Industry leaders are calling for technical meetings with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to address grid vulnerabilities and plan for future energy demand.
