Chihuahua faces heavy rain, thunderstorms and extreme heat this weekend

The State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC) issued a warning for the Chihuahua region, forecasting moderate to strong rain of 25‑50 mm in the Sierra Tarahumara and scattered to moderate showers elsewhere this Saturday‑Sunday. The weather may be accompanied by thunderstorms, possible hail and strong wind gusts exceeding 55 km/h in Juárez, Janos and Guadalupe, with potential dust storms on highways. Temperatures are expected to rise to 39 °C in Juárez and Ojinaga and 36 °C in Chihuahua city, while the National Weather Service (SMN) warns of extreme heat of 40‑45 °C across northern states such as Baja California, Sonora and Sinaloa.

Authorities advise residents to avoid crossing rivers or flooded streets, keep drainage systems clear, stay hydrated, limit sun exposure and drive cautiously if rain occurs. The CEPC reiterates that emergencies should be reported immediately via 9‑1‑1.
