Chihuahua state showdown as Morena opposes election security bill and PRI registers new political base

State Secretary of Government Santiago de la Peña Grajeda said Morena legislators in the Chihuahua Congress refused to adopt stricter rules intended to protect upcoming elections from organized‑crime influence, accusing them of putting party agendas ahead of institutional security.

PRI state leader Alejandro Domínguez announced the registration of roughly 1,250 members of the “Defensores de Chihuahua,” with a swearing‑in ceremony planned and a statewide campaign tour slated for the run‑up to the 2027 elections. He also noted internal competition within Morena for its gubernatorial candidacy and left open the possibility of a coalition with the PAN.
