Chihuahua to host Indigenous and Traditional Games on September 5

The Chihuahua Municipal Government has announced a day of Indigenous and Traditional Games and Sports to be held on Saturday, September 5, at the Luis H. Álvarez Polideportivo. The event is organized to commemorate International Indigenous Women's Day.

Activities include the Arihueta Race for indigenous girls and women, and the Bola Race for children and adults. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners, with 4,000 pesos for first place, 2,800 pesos for second, and 2,000 pesos for third in both categories. The program also features traditional mental dexterity games such as chilillo, pitarra, and palillo, alongside traditional dances and medal ceremonies.

Beatriz Pompa, Deputy Director of Adapted and Inclusive Sport at the Municipal Institute of Physical Culture and Sport (IMCFD), emphasized the importance of creating spaces for coexistence and preserving the history and identity of original peoples by passing traditions to new generations.
