Chiikawa regains top spot at South Korean box office

The Japanese animated film ‘Chiikawa: The Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island’ has reclaimed the number one position at the South Korean box office. After briefly losing the top spot to the Hollywood film ‘Heart of the Beast’ starring Brad Pitt, the animation drew 31,181 viewers on October 30, bringing its cumulative audience to approximately 2.39 million.

‘Chiikawa: The Movie’ has become the seventh highest-grossing Japanese animated film in South Korea. The film follows the adventures of the Chiikawa characters on a quest to find Mermaid Island.

Brad Pitt’s ‘Heart of the Beast’, which depicts the survival story of a former special forces soldier and a retired military dog in Alaska, previously held the top position with 21,474 viewers on October 29. Other films appearing in the top rankings include ‘The Secret of CSAT Question Setting’ starring Lee Sun-bin, ‘Assassins’, and ‘Tazza: Song of Beelzebub’.
