Chișinău celebrates 590 years with festivals and ceremonies
Chișinău is celebrating its 590th anniversary with a series of festive events, including traditional markets, religious services, and musical performances. The festivities began with a Holy Liturgy at the Nativity of the Lord Metropolitan Cathedral and featured various cultural programs, including folk-rock concerts by artists such as Zdob și Zdub and Lupii lui Calancea.
President Maia Sandu issued a message emphasizing the goal of developing a “European Chișinău” characterized by green spaces, modern public transport, and safe streets for pedestrians. General Mayor Ion Ceban participated in a ceremony to lay flowers at the monument of Stefan cel Mare, honoring the city's history and the people who built it.
Due to the celebrations, significant traffic restrictions were implemented in the city center. Several major streets, including portions of Stefan cel Mare and Sfânt street, were closed to vehicles, leading to the redirection of numerous trolleybus and bus routes. Public transport operated on a Sunday schedule to accommodate the crowds and festivities.
