Chișinău exhibition showcases hidden urban archaeology and history

The National Museum of History of Moldova in Chișinău opened the exhibition “Arheologia Urbană și Memoria Ascunsă a Chișinăului” on 22 July. The display presents centuries‑old artefacts, photographs, and reconstructions that reveal the city’s past beneath its streets, including a copy of the first documentary mention of Chișinău dated 17 July 1436, a 15th‑century necropolis discovered under a former market, and relics from the former village of Visterniceni. Curators explain how archaeological findings illustrate daily life, religious practices and economic activities of earlier communities. The exhibition will remain open to the public until 30 November, or the end of the year, offering visitors a chance to understand the city’s transformation over the centuries.
