Chișinău museum exhibition series

In July 2026 the National Museum of History of Moldova in Chișinău launched two distinct temporary exhibitions. On 22 July the museum opened “Arheologia Urbană și Memoria Ascunsă a Chișinăului,” displaying artefacts, photographs and reconstructions that reveal the city’s archaeological layers, including a 15th‑century necropolis and relics from the former village of Visterniceni. Curators highlighted how these findings illuminate everyday life, religious practice and economic activity in historic Chișinău. The exhibit is scheduled to remain on view until the end of November.

A few days later, on 27 July, the museum introduced “Miros de pâine caldă. Pâinea în Epoca Fierului,” an exhibition on millennial bread traditions. Featuring objects loaned from the Zalău County Museum in Romania alongside Moldovan pieces, it showcases grain‑cultivation tools, ancient ovens and grinding stones. Museum staff recreated traditional bread‑making scenes, and researchers noted the exhibition’s emphasis on the cultural ties across the Nistru River and the evolving symbolism of bread from sustenance to spiritual icon. This display is slated to close on 4 September.

Together, the two exhibitions underscore the museum’s role in presenting Moldova’s layered urban past and its broader cultural connections, offering visitors insight into both archaeological heritage and longstanding culinary practices.
