Chișinău Ghetto Holocaust Victims Commemorated in Moldova
On the 85th anniversary of the Chișinău ghetto’s establishment, a memorial ceremony was held at the Holocaust Victims Memorial in Moldova. Officials, Jewish community representatives and diplomats gathered to stress the importance of preserving Holocaust memory and combating antisemitism through education.
Mayor Ion Ceban emphasized that teaching the lessons of history in schools is essential to prevent future hatred. Israeli ambassador Elron Yoram called the remembrance a moral duty and stressed the need for respect and tolerance. Nicolae Rădiță, Deputy Director of the Interethnic Relations Agency, announced a new action plan for Holocaust commemoration for 2027‑2030, including preservation of memorial sites, educational programs and cultural projects. The event featured survivor testimonies, archival documents, and a newly inaugurated exhibition marking 85 years since the ghetto’s founding.
