Chișinău celebrates 590 years with city patron saint festivities

Chișinău is celebrating its patron saint day (Hramul orașului) on October 14, marking 590 years since its first documentary attestation. The festivities include a religious liturgy at the Nativity Metropolitan Cathedral, followed by various artistic performances in the Cathedral Square and the Great National Assembly Square.

Musical programs feature a wide range of genres, from children's recitals to retro music and a folk-rock fusion titled ‘Hora Chișinăului,’ featuring artists such as Zdob și Zdub, the Advahov Brothers, and Lupii lui Calancea. The celebration also includes traditional fairs for wine, honey, and local crafts, as well as an ‘Octoberfest 2026’ beer festival.

Due to the events, significant traffic restrictions and public transport diversions are in effect in central Chișinău. Additionally, several Public Services Agency (ASP) branches and post offices in specific regions, including Briceni, Florești, Rezina, Vulcănești, and Bender, will suspend operations on October 14 in observance of the local holiday.
