Quilmes: 12-day-old baby dies after avocado falls from tree
A 12-day-old infant, identified as Lucas, has died following a tragic accident in Quilmes, Buenos Aires, where a large avocado fell from a tree and struck him in the head. The incident occurred near the entrance of Kindergarten No. 949 on Conesa Street while the baby was being held by his mother, Giuliana Gómez.
The impact caused multiple skull fractures and internal hemorrhaging. After a delay in emergency services, the family transported the infant to the Sanatorio de la Trinidad, where he underwent emergency surgery but ultimately passed away after several days in intensive care.
The family and local residents have accused the Quilmes municipality of negligence, claiming that formal requests for tree pruning and maintenance had been submitted by the kindergarten since last year. While municipal authorities stated the tree was in good condition and the fruit fell naturally, the judiciary has reclassified the case from involuntary injury to involuntary manslaughter. An investigation is currently underway to determine legal responsibility.
