Child dies after jet ski capsizes near Kos, Greece; two adults missing

On the afternoon of 15 July, a jet ski carrying three people capsized in the open waters of the Aegean Sea near the Turkish coast of the Bonduro area. The incident prompted an immediate joint rescue operation by Turkish and Greek authorities.

Greek coast‑guard vessels located a deceased child in Greek territorial waters northeast of the island of Kos. The child, whose identity was not initially disclosed, was taken to the General Hospital of Kos where doctors confirmed death and ordered an autopsy.

Searches for the two adult passengers continue. The Greek effort includes a coast‑guard patrol boat and a Hellenic Air Force helicopter conducting aerial surveys, while Turkish teams pursue their own investigation. Rescue crews face challenging conditions with winds reaching Beaufort force 5.
