Child Injured by Bison at Yellowstone National Park

A 12‑year‑old visitor was injured by a bison at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming on Friday morning. The encounter occurred around 9:15 a.m. near Mud Volcano, just north of Fishing Bridge. Emergency medical personnel transported the child to a nearby hospital; the extent of injuries was not disclosed and the incident remains under investigation.

Park officials emphasized that bison are the most frequent cause of injuries to visitors in the park and warned that the animals can run up to 35 mph and become aggressive if approached. Visitors are advised to stay at least 25 yards from large animals such as bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose and coyotes, and at least 100 yards from bears, wolves and cougars. The park noted two bison‑related injuries reported in 2024 and one in 2023, referencing similar incidents from previous years.
