Childhood Cancer Awareness Month marked by Golden Ribbon ceremonies

Various regions have launched initiatives to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month through the lighting of the Golden Ribbon, an international symbol of strength for children facing the disease.

In Villa de Álvarez, Mayor Tey Gutiérrez Andrade led the ceremony at the Municipal DIF facilities. The event highlighted the collaboration between the local administration and the Mexican Association for Helping Children with Cancer in Colima (AMANC). Efforts include awareness campaigns and the ‘Tapas que Curan’ collection, which gathers bottle caps and PET containers to fund support for affected children. Local officials have also called on educators to monitor students for early signs of illness.

In Almería, Spain, the Provincial Council joined the Association of Parents of Children and Adolescents with Cancer (ARGAR) for the ‘Enciende la Esperanza’ campaign. The Golden Ribbon was unveiled on the facade of the Provincial Palace to sensitize society to the impact of a cancer diagnosis on families. Officials emphasized the importance of supporting both the medical needs of minors and the logistical challenges faced by their parents during treatment.
